The National Police has deployed additional personnel from its Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) in several regions to speed up efforts to tackle forest and land fires, particularly in areas requiring intensive attention.

The Lampung Regional Police’s Brimob unit sent six personnel and two Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicles to assist the South Sumatra Regional Police under an operational-control support assignment on Saturday (17 October).

National Police Public Relations Division chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir said the deployment was part of efforts to strengthen operational support for tackling forest and land fires, including by providing additional personnel and equipment according to needs on the ground.

“The National Police is deploying personnel and supporting equipment from regional units to help tackle forest and land fires in line with needs on the ground. This support is expected to speed up firefighting efforts, improve preparedness, and minimise the impact of fires on communities and the environment,” Johnny said.

Previously, on Thursday (15 October), the National Police deployed 200 additional personnel from the National Police Mobile Brigade Corps’ Pasukan Brimob I to assist with fire response in South Sumatra.

Meanwhile, the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police sent 200 Brimob personnel to support efforts to tackle forest and land fires in Central Kalimantan on Friday (16 October).

The six Lampung Regional Police Brimob personnel sent to South Sumatra comprise four AWC vehicle operators and two drivers.

The vehicles are part of the operational support being provided to assist firefighting efforts on the ground.

The National Police is adjusting personnel placements and duties to the needs and conditions in each region. The cross-unit support is expected to strengthen preparedness and help crews contain fires before they spread.

As well as deploying personnel, the National Police urged the public not to clear land by burning and to report any fires to authorities immediately.

Public participation and coordination between agencies are considered important for detecting potential fires early, speeding up the response and reducing the impact of forest and land fires on the environment and residents’ activities.
