Brimob sergeant punished

BANDUNG: A member of the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) here
was sentenced to 21 days detention for his involvement in illegal
ammunition and gun sales to the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), West
Java Police spokesman Maj. Dade Ahmad said here on Tuesday.

Dade said the planned promotion of Sgt. Prabowo would also be
delayed for one year. He denied rumors that Prabowo would be
demoted for the offense.

Prabowo was arrested on Feb. 21 by South Jakarta Police
detectives in the uncovering of a gun sales syndicate to GAM.

Jakarta Police chief Maj. Gen. Nurfaizi announced the South
Jakarta Police's success early this month. He said that a large
number of rifles and thousands of bullets were seized and that
military personnel were involved in the business. (25/sur)
