Brimob Polda Metro Jaya Intercepts Wrong-Way Driver in Jatinegara
A joint patrol team from the Brimob B Pioneer Battalion and the Perintis Presisi unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police intercepted a motorcyclist travelling against the direction of traffic on Jalan Jatinegara Timur, East Jakarta, at approximately 02:25 WIB on Friday morning.
Commander of the Brimob Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Henik Maryanto, explained that the rider initially refused to cooperate when officers attempted to stop them, resulting in the motorcycle colliding with a patrol officer’s vehicle.
“After an on-site inspection, it was discovered that the two-wheeled vehicle did not meet standard traffic regulation requirements,” Henik stated in a briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
Officers subsequently impounded the motorcycle and transferred it to the East Jakarta Metro Police regional unit for further legal processing.
Henik noted that these joint patrols are conducted routinely to anticipate potential disturbances to public security and order (kamtibmas), particularly during high-risk hours in the early morning.
“Our personnel are present to prevent security disturbances and provide a rapid response to any situations encountered in the field,” said Henik.
“Compliance with traffic laws is part of maintaining collective safety. We urge the public not to drive against the flow of traffic or engage in any actions that could endanger others,” added Budi.
Following the apprehension of the offender in Jatinegara, the patrol team continued sweeping several other high-risk areas in East Jakarta, including Jalan Raya Bogor, the Cililitan area, and Jalan Raya Tengah in Kampung Tengah.
These medium-to-large scale patrols are focused on anticipating potential street brawls and street crimes, such as robbery, theft with violence, theft with aggravating circumstances, and motor vehicle theft.
