Brimob officer named in kidnap plot
JAKARTA: An officer from the elite police Mobil Brigade
(Brimob) unit in Jakarta is being questioned by internal affairs
over the alleged kidnapping of a businessman.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo said on Tuesday
that Adj. Brig. Arifin Purnama had allegedly kidnapped Amrri, a
businessman running an international labor supply company in
Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on the orders of businesswoman Nasri.
Prasetyo said that Amrri owed Nasri Rp 130 million (US$15,850)
for 80 passports that he had failed to deliver.
He alleged that Arifin took Amrri from Hotel Nirwana in
Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Saturday, before eventually taking
the victim to Nasri's house in Cipinang Elok, Jatinegara, East
Jakarta.
Amrri was released on Saturday. It is unclear if violence was
employed.
Prasetyo said that Arifin had no authority to take Amrri a
hostage.
"If he wanted to arrest Amrri, he must immediately submit
Amrri to the police detectives who are responsible for the case,
not to another people." -- JP
