Brimob North Sumatra repairs bridge in Tapanuli Selatan to restore community activities
Medan (ANTARA) - The Brimob unit of the North Sumatra Regional Police has repaired a suspension bridge in Batu Hula Village, Batang Toru District, Tapanuli Selatan Regency (Tapsel) to restore local community activities following flooding in the area.
“The bridge is part of the police service’s commitment to the community, particularly in helping overcome access obstacles that directly impact residents’ economic activities,” said Brimob Unit Commander of North Sumatra Police Regional Command Senior Commissioner Rantau Isnur Eka in Medan on Wednesday.
He stated that the bridge was damaged by flooding that occurred on 25 November 2025, hampering community activities, particularly farmers, who traverse the route daily to reach agricultural lands.
He explained that the bridge repairs utilised steel, sand, stone, cement and timber materials, with dimensions of approximately 60 metres in length, 2 metres in width and approximately 7 metres in height from the river surface.
“In the initial phase, we conducted community outreach to discourage the use of the damaged bridge as an alternative route because it could endanger safety,” he said.
“We conducted socialisation regarding the establishment of command posts that will serve as accommodation facilities for personnel and provide services during the bridge revitalisation process,” he added.
Through this initiative, the unit hopes that community access, particularly for farmers who depend on this route, can return to normal so that their activities can proceed smoothly and safely.
“The bridge repair represents the police force’s care in helping restore vital access for residents that is essential for agricultural and community economic activities,” he said.
