Brimob Maintains Strict Scene of Crime Control at Jember Mosque Hit by Explosion
Jember — Scene of crime investigation was conducted at the location of an explosion that occurred at Masjid Raya Pesona in Pesona Raya Regency residential area in Patrang sub-district, Jember district.
Strict security was maintained by Brimob from East Java Regional Police as the Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom) and Forensic Laboratory Team (Labfor) from East Java Regional Police conducted the scene investigation.
“The crime scene investigation is still ongoing and further details will be provided by East Java Regional Police,” stated Head of Criminal Investigation Unit at Jember Police Department, Police Senior Commissioner Angga Riatma, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
The East Java Regional Police team investigated the explosion scene located near the male ablution area with several corners examined in meticulous detail. Items found around the explosion site were also inspected, and officials examined damage caused by the blast including the mosque ceiling, roofing, and unused cabinets.
The Chief of Jember Police Department, Police Senior Commissioner Bobby A. Condroputra, and other East Java Regional Police officials also entered the mosque to monitor the investigation process by the combined team.
Chairman of Masjid Raya Pesona’s Management Board, Muhammad Fadil, was also present in the mosque to provide assistance if required by the Forensic Laboratory and Bomb Disposal teams from East Java Regional Police during their investigation.
A mysterious explosion previously occurred at a mosque in the Pesona Regency residential area in Patrang sub-district, Jember district, East Java during evening prayers (tarawih) on Monday night, 16 March 2026.
The explosion resulted in no fatalities but caused damage to the mosque’s roof and caused panic among worshippers performing evening prayers and residents of the residential area.
“The explosion was quite loud and could be heard even in neighbouring villages,” said Mosque Management Board Chairman Muhammad Fadil on Tuesday morning.
According to him, the explosion occurred around 19:30 West Indonesia Time during evening prayers, causing many congregants to rush out of the mosque.
“One person was taken to the Emergency Unit at Dr Soebandi Public Hospital due to suspected hearing damage,” he added.
