Brimob and North Jakarta Police Arrest Three Begal Suspects and Three Drug Offenders
The Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Metro Jaya Police, together with the North Jakarta Metro Police, secured six young men in two separate operations during a patrol in North Jakarta on Saturday night. Three of the individuals were arrested for alleged violent street robbery (begal), and the other three were found carrying drugs.
“Three youths were secured after they were suspected of being involved in a robbery in the Pademangan area. Meanwhile, the other three were detained in Tanjung Priok after they were found in possession of two clips of synthetic tobacco,” said Metro Jaya Police Brimob Commander, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto, in a statement on Sunday (19/7/2026).
Henik stated that the arrests are part of efforts to maintain security and suppress the potential for street crime in the North Jakarta area. He emphasised that continuous patrols serve as both a preventive measure and a law enforcement action to provide a sense of safety to the public.
“The presence of personnel in the field aims to prevent crime and enforce the law, while also providing protection to the community. Law enforcement must go hand in hand with prevention through education, family supervision, and community awareness to reduce potential disturbances to public order,” he said.
During the patrol, officers first secured three youths who attempted to flee during a raid in the Pademangan area. Following initial questioning, they were handed over to the Pademangan Police for further investigation. A few hours later, the team detained three other youths on Jalan Jati V in Tanjung Priok after a search uncovered two clips of synthetic tobacco. The suspects and evidence were subsequently handed over to the North Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit.
Henik reiterated that the patrols are part of the police force’s commitment to strengthening preventive and enforcement actions against various forms of public order disturbances. He expressed hope that the visible presence of police in vulnerable areas would create a safer environment and increase public trust in police services. He also urged residents to remain vigilant, increase awareness of their surroundings, and not hesitate to report any activities that could potentially disrupt security and public order. Reports can be made through the 24-hour Police Call Center at 110.
