The panel of judges at the Mataram District Court in West Nusa Tenggara has handed down a verdict against the defendant in the death case of Brigadier Esco Faska Rely, namely Brigadier Rizka Sintiani, who is the victim’s wife, sentencing her to 10 years in prison. “Sentencing the defendant Rizka Sintiani to imprisonment for 10 years,” said I Putu Suyoga, Chief Judge of the panel, while reading the verdict at the Mataram District Court on Friday. The judge imposed the sentence in accordance with the prosecutor’s demands, which stated the defendant was proven guilty of violating the first alternative charge, namely Article 44 paragraph (3) of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence, in conjunction with Number 38 appendix one of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments. In the consideration of the verdict, the judge stated the defendant had been proven to have committed physical violence against the victim resulting in death. The judge said the act, classified as a serious assault crime, occurred inside the house occupied by the defendant together with the victim and their two children. The physical violence that occurred in mid-August 2025 was also corroborated by the testimony of a child witness who saw the defendant’s actions against the victim. This was further strengthened by the examination of other evidence, including the results of a digital forensic expert’s examination of the victim’s conversation traces on the WhatsApp application with the defendant. Likewise, the forensic autopsy results, honesty tests, and examination by a psychologist found consistency with the evidence presented in court. The defendant was also mentioned in the verdict as having attempted to eliminate criminal evidence from the examination of the house where the abuse took place. One such item was a pair of scissors indicated as the tool the defendant used to abuse the victim. Although no traces of bloodstains were found on the scissors, the psychologist stated this was part of the defendant’s effort to destroy evidence. Furthermore, ligature marks on the neck were confirmed by the forensic autopsy expert as post-mortem, or marks that appeared after death. The existence of these ligature marks was considered by the judge as an attempt by the defendant to divert attention from the actual events. “Similarly, with the victim’s mobile phone unlock code, the defendant gave the wrong code to investigators, and this became part of the defendant’s effort to obstruct the investigation,” the judge stated.
