Brigadier Rizka Kills Husband Brigadier Esco Over Rp70 Million Debt
The Mataram District Court in West Nusa Tenggara has ruled that Brigadier Rizka Sintiani was proven to have physically abused her husband, Brigadier Esco Faska Rely, leading to his death, with the motive rooted in debts amounting to tens of millions of rupiah. Presiding Judge I Putu Suyoga stated during the verdict hearing on Friday that the defendant resorted to violence against the victim due to economic pressures, as a debt repayment was due on 20 August 2025.
Facts revealed during the trial indicated that the physical assault stemmed from a prolonged dispute which peaked on 19 August 2025. This was corroborated by written conversations between the victim and the defendant via WhatsApp. The defendant had repeatedly made statements assessed by experts as threats towards the victim. The judge noted that the chat history confirmed the defendant had long harboured resentment towards the victim over the debt, and that the ambiguous threats were considered even more dangerous by expert analysis.
The defendant’s anger culminated upon learning the victim had received his remuneration payment. She demanded he immediately transfer the money to settle the debt, but received no response. The failure to transfer the funds triggered the severe physical assault inside their home. The court detailed the victim’s total outstanding debt as Rp70 million, comprising sums owed to various parties including Rp55 million, Rp5 million, and Rp10 million to a stall in front of the Sekotong Police Station.
The violent act was further corroborated by testimony from the couple’s child, admissible under Article 235 Paragraph (1) of the new Criminal Procedure Code as indicative evidence. The presiding judge recounted the child’s statement: ‘Mum hit Dad. Dad didn’t get up.’ The panel deemed the child’s testimony as unquestionable and a valid indicator for criminal application.
