Brigadier Renita: Innovator of Criminal Databases in UN Peacekeeping Mission
Brigadier Renita Rismayanti has been named a recipient of the 2026 Hoegeng Innovative Police Awards. Renita implemented significant innovations in criminal data management during her deployment with the United Nations Police (UNPOL) as part of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.
The Hoegeng Awards 2026 ceremony took place at The Tribrata Darmawangsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (31/7/2026). The event was attended by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and CT Corp Chairman, Chairul Tanjung, alongside various ministers and heads of state institutions.
The selection process for the 2026 awards involved a panel of five experts from various sectors of society, including representatives from the Gusdurian Indonesia Network, Komnas HAM, the KPK, Kompolnas, and the House of Representatives (DPR).
As a member of the Indonesian National Police International Relations Division, Renita served as a Crime Database Officer for the MINUSCA mission between 202lar 2024. Upon her arrival in the Central African Republic, she noted the stark difference in security conditions compared to Indonesia, facing a landscape marked by ongoing conflict.
During her tenure, Renita identified that criminal case recording was still being conducted manually. She was tasked with digitising this data to ensure it could be linked directly to UNPOL Headquarters. This led to the development of the UNPOL Case Management platform, which allowed for the rapid generation of real-time statistics for mission leadership.
Beyond UNPOL data, Brigadier Renita also managed the migration of criminal databases for the local Central African police force. At the time, many criminals remained at large due to a lack of recorded data. She spearheaded a major project to install a database for local police, which had previously lacked any criminal record system. Furthermore, she developed ‘hot spot maps’ to identify high-crime areas, assisting UN personnel in planning more effective patrols.
Inspector Sugiandono, who served as the Head of the Criminal Analysis Database Unit and was Renita’s superior during the MINUSCA mission, praised her innovation as a breakthrough. He noted that the database migration provided significant strategic contributions to both the UN mission and the local security sector in the Central African Republic.
Inspector Sugi highlighted that Renita’s role was instrumental in the digitalisation of criminal case databases for both MINUSCA and the local police. He emphasised that she was not merely a participant but a vocal initiator in the project. Through this digitalisation, the Central African police can now monitor and record regional security conditions in real-time, allowing operational teams to deploy patrols more effectively based on automated crime trend data.
