Tanjung Priok Customs demonstrated its commitment to supporting public education, particularly for academics, by opening opportunities for students to directly understand the strategic role of customs in safeguarding the flow of goods and the national economy through a field visit programme.

On Tuesday, 5 May 2026, Tanjung Priok Customs received a visit from students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Jakarta. This activity formed part of practical learning designed to provide comprehensive insights into Indonesia’s customs and excise ecosystem.

Around 100 participants, consisting of students and accompanying lecturers, took part in the event enthusiastically. The programme was divided into two main sessions: a material presentation in the Sinergi Hall of the Type A Customs and Excise KPU Tanjung Priok, and a direct visit to New Priok Container Terminal 1 (NPCT 1), one of Indonesia’s modern container terminals.

During the presentation session, participants received in-depth explanations about the profile of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, including its roles as a revenue collector, trade facilitator, and community protector. Additionally, students were introduced to customs processes at the port as well as various important regulations such as prohibitions and restrictions (lartas) in export and import activities.

The Head of the Compliance Guidance and Information Services Division of the Type A Customs and Excise KPU Tanjung Priok, Niko Budi Dharma, emphasised the importance of this activity in building understanding among the younger generation. “Through this field visit activity, Tanjung Priok Customs opens up direct learning spaces for students to understand the role of Customs in overseeing the traffic of goods entering and leaving Indonesia,” he stated.

Not only theory, but the field experience became the main attraction. In the visit session to NPCT 1, students were invited to see firsthand the container oversight process, including the use of modern scanning equipment that supports efficiency and security. Active interaction was evident from the numerous questions posed by participants during the ongoing discussions.

Through this activity, students not only gained conceptual understanding but also real experiences regarding how the role of Customs directly impacts the smoothness of national logistics, community protection, and strengthening the state economy.
