Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tyre manufacturer PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia (Bridgestone Indonesia) has received the Gold award in the Company Performance Rating Programme (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

According to a company press release in Jakarta on Friday, the PROPER Gold award was given to Bridgestone’s manufacturing facility in Karawang for implementing environmental management standards and contributing to the community.

“This PROPER Gold rating is the most beautiful gift because it coincides with Bridgestone’s golden anniversary or 50 years of presence in Indonesia,” said President Director of Bridgestone Indonesia, Mukiat Sutikno.

“We are committed to continuously improving environmental management in the future,” he added.

The Bridgestone facility in Karawang implements the Centralized Maintenance Energy Monitoring System (CMEMS) based on SCADA IoT.

Based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis, the system precisely controls operations in the Mixing unit, which is the largest contributor to emissions.

The implementation of CMEMS is claimed to have successfully reduced energy consumption from 6.20 GWh per year to 4.90 GWh per year and cut greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by up to 475.92 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year without shifting environmental impacts to other work processes.

Beyond operational areas, the Bridgestone Indonesia Karawang Plant runs the Reforestation, Innovation and Sanggabuana Empowerment (RISE) Programme, focused on expanding conservation efforts in the Sanggabuana Forest in West Java.

In this regard, the company carries out ecosystem restoration by creating feeding corridors for the endangered Javan lutung primate.

Biotagging technology (QR Code) and Avenza Map are used to monitor tree growth in real-time.

Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that PROPER is not merely an administrative evaluation tool.

“PROPER is a transformation engine that encourages companies not only to comply but to exceed compliance through innovation, resource efficiency, and real contributions to society,” he said.

He explained that according to PROPER assessment results, 282 companies successfully achieved the exceeding compliance category, consisting of 39 companies with Gold rating and 243 with Green rating.

PROPER covers supervision of company compliance, implementation of transparency in environmental management, community involvement in environmental management, and fulfilment of company obligations to provide information related to environmental management.

The PROPER exceeding compliance rating assessment includes, among others, the implementation of environmental management systems, energy efficiency efforts, emission reduction efforts, and implementation of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) in handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

In addition, there is assessment of water conservation and reduction of wastewater pollution load, protection of biodiversity, and community development programmes.
