Bridge to Mandalay airport opened
YANGON (DPA): A six-lane bridge connecting the long-delayed
Thai-built Mandalay International Airport to the 35-kilometer
road to the city has been officially opened for traffic, news
reports said on Friday.
The Panluang Bridge was opened for business on Thursday in a
ceremony presided over by State Peace and Development Council
(SPDC) Second-Secretary, Lt. Gen. Tin Oo, said the New Light of
Myanmar newspaper.
Tin Oo said the 100 metre-long bridge, located at the entrance
to the newly-constructed Mandalay airport, was built at the cost
of 185 million kyat (about $578,125).
He said the bridge would help ease road transport to the
airport, which had been originally scheduled to open in July
1999.
