Bridge providing access to irrigation and plantations severed by floods in Abdya

The connecting bridge between residential settlements, irrigation systems, and plantation lands in Adan Village, Tangan-Tangan District, West Aceh Daya Regency (Abdya), has been completely severed following flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in the region.

“We have received detailed reports regarding the collapse of the irrigation bridge in Adan Village,” said the Head of the Abdya Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR), Rahwadi, in Abdya on Friday.

According to field observations, the bridge has sustained severe structural damage. The entire road surface and the bridge’s supporting foundations have collapsed into the riverbed, leaving a large gaping hole.

Rahwadi stated that his department is immediately conducting intensive coordination with the regional leadership to formulate steps to address the bridge’s collapse.

He added that accelerating the repair of this public facility is a top priority for the local government to ensure that community mobility returns to normal.

Iskandar, a community leader in Adan Village, noted that the severed bridge is the only access point for residents to the irrigation dam and plantations.

He explained that the paralysis of this route is impacting the village’s economy. Farmers and plantation owners are now isolated from their lands and face the threat of significant losses as they are unable to transport harvests to markets.

“We sincerely hope and request that the local government rebuild this bridge immediately, as it serves as the lifeblood of the residents’ economy,” said Iskandar.
