Bridge in Pangandaran Collapses, West Java Provincial Government to Build Permanent Structure

The West Java Provincial Government is taking over the construction of a bridge in Margacinta Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency. This new bridge will replace the suspension bridge in the village that collapsed shortly after its inauguration on Sunday (30/8).

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the provincial government will build a permanent bridge in Margacinta Village to ensure a more stable construction.

“We will immediately build a permanent bridge so that it can be used by many people, accommodate cars, and transport agricultural, livestock, fishery, and maritime products,” Dedi said in a statement on Thursday (3/9/2026).

Dedi noted that the permanent bridge is slated for construction in 2027. He expressed hope that the presence of a permanent bridge would smooth the local economic wheels. He also advised villagers not to use the bridge for racing.

Previously, the suspension bridge in Margacinta Village collapsed and sagged downwards shortly after its inauguration on Sunday (30/8) at 16:00 WIB. The Regent of Pangandaran, Citra Pitriyami, along with dozens of residents, was on the bridge when the incident occurred.

Dedi emphasised that the collapsed suspension bridge was not built by the West Java Provincial Government. Nevertheless, considering the limited funds available to the Pangandaran Regency Government, the West Java Provincial Government will proceed with building a new bridge in Margacinta Village.
