Bridge Embankment in Kusamba Remains Unrepaired Two Weeks After Flood

The road embankment at the Candigara River bridge in Bingin Hamlet, Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, Bali, which collapsed due to flooding, has yet to be repaired. Residents are anxious that the condition of the embankment will worsen if it is eroded again by river overflow. Observations at the location on Monday (10/8/2026) showed that the small road is frequently used by four-wheeled vehicles. Several trucks carrying building materials were also seen passing cautiously, with some drivers stopping to observe the damage that could potentially collapse when driven over. Acting Kusamba Village Head Nengah Suriadi confirmed the increasingly alarming condition of the embankment. He stated that residents hope for immediate technical intervention to prevent the damage from spreading and threatening access and nearby settlements. ‘Currently, it is still passable. However, it will certainly get bigger and worse, especially if the river overflows again. We fear it will seep into the bridge,’ Suriadi said. He expressed hope that physical works could begin soon to address the community’s concerns regarding potential subsequent flooding and road access damage. Responding to these concerns, Head of the Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) I Putu Widiada explained that repairs to the bridge embankment will be expedited through the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas Agency (PUPRPKP) of Klungkung. He noted that the physical handling of the embankment, damaged by floods two weeks prior, had been directly inspected by Klungkung Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra. During the visit, the Deputy Regent indicated that the maintenance budget allocation from the relevant agency would be utilised, in line with the leadership’s directives during the previous site inspection. ‘As directed by the Deputy Regent during his visit to inspect the embankment some time ago, repairs will be sought from the Public Works maintenance budget,’ said Putu Widiada.
