Bridge Damaged by NTT Earthquake, Logistics to North Lamba Leda Hampered
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on 15 August 2026 caused damage to vital infrastructure. Moreover, as of 22 August 2026, NTT was still being shaken by 5,335 aftershocks.
One of the affected structures is the Dampek Bridge on the Reo-Dampek-Pota provincial road in North Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai. Cracks in the bridge approach have temporarily hampered the distribution of relief logistics and the movement of residents to North Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai.
The Head of the NTT Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR), Benyamin Nahak, said that repairs are being carried out together with the NTT National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN). The work is also supported by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the local government, and the surrounding community.
“We have already carried out repairs to the cracks in the Dampek Bridge approach. Currently, the work is being accelerated and is targeted for 23 August 2026, when the road and bridge on this provincial road section will return to normal and can be used by public vehicles,” Benyamin explained.
The acceleration of the bridge repair, Benyamin said, is a direct instruction from the Governor of NTT, Emanuel Melki Laka Lena, following an inspection of the Dampek area together with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Roads and bridges are a priority because they are the main routes for public mobility as well as access for distributing relief logistics to earthquake-affected areas. The completion of the bridge repair is expected to facilitate the flow of aid to North Lamba Leda District and the surrounding villages.
