Bridge Connecting Jakarta and Bekasi in Cipayung Collapses Again Shortly After Temporary Repair
Jakarta — Kampung Kramat Bridge in Setu District, Cipayung Subdistrict, East Jakarta, collapsed again on Sunday, 1 March 2026. The bridge, which connects East Jakarta with the city of Bekasi, is now impassable to vehicles, forcing traffic to be diverted through alternative routes.
The bridge had previously experienced subsidence on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 and underwent temporary repairs. However, damage recurred just days after the repair work was completed.
Access to the bridge has been closed using bamboo barriers and yellow warning tape to prevent vehicles from crossing. Motorists from East Jakarta heading to Bekasi have been forced to find alternative routes.
A local resident, Endang, 50, stated that damage reappeared just one day after the temporary repair was completed. “It was repaired on Wednesday afternoon with a temporary patch, and by Thursday cracks were already appearing. By Friday it had already started collapsing — initially just one pothole, but it gradually widened,” Endang said when interviewed on Sunday.
According to her, after the patching was done, the bridge was reopened to the public and traffic resumed. The heavy volume of vehicles is suspected to have triggered the renewed damage. “Because so many cars were passing through after the temporary repair, and once it was open, traffic was flowing. This road gets really congested in the evenings. If it could be made permanent and strong, because if this bridge stays closed, traffic will be backed up for miles. The alternative roads are small and narrow,” she explained.
Setu District Chief Dwi Widiastuti confirmed the bridge has collapsed again and stated that further repairs will be carried out on Monday, 2 March 2026. “Stone gabions will be placed beneath the bridge so the repair lasts longer, whilst we await follow-up action from the Ministry of Public Works,” said Dwi when contacted.
She explained that the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Works through the Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Authority. “The previous repair was temporary whilst we coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works. Since the bridge is under Public Works jurisdiction and it collapsed again after repair, we have asked the road authority to carry out a permanent fix tomorrow,” she said.
