Bridge collapses in Tangerang

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): A dilapidated bridge on the main
road between Pondok Aren and Pondok Betung collapsed at 8 a.m.
yesterday morning.

No vehicles were on the six-meter long bridge when it
collapsed.

Traffic on the bridge is usually heavy, but slow owing to the
large holes in it.

The district head of Pondok Aren, Syahril Fachmi Lubis, said
overloaded vehicles might have worsened the condition of the
bridge.

The foundation of the bridge had crumbled, he said.

Traffic from Pondok Aren and Pondok Betung has since been
diverted through Jurangmangu.

Tangerang Regency spokesperson Ena Karlina said the
administration would immediately repair the bridge. (18/anr)
