New Delhi (ANTARA) - The leaders of BRICS nations at the 18th BRICS Summit adopted a joint declaration in New Delhi, the capital of India, on Saturday (12/9), reaffirming their commitment to inclusive global governance and the strengthening of multilateralism.

Furthermore, the leaders called for international and regional peace and security, while emphasising sustainable and inclusive global economic growth, as well as the strengthening of cultural and people-to-people cooperation.

The New Delhi Declaration reaffirms the leaders’ commitment to reforming and enhancing global governance by promoting the creation of an international and multilateral system that is more just, equitable, agile, effective, representative, and accountable, in the spirit of extensive consultation, common contribution, and mutual benefit.

In the declaration, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening multilateralism and multipolarity and upholding international law, while calling for greater and more meaningful participation and representation of emerging markets, developing countries, and least developed countries in global decision-making processes and structures.

They also expressed condemnation of various efforts, including the deliberate withholding of established contributions, to unilaterally weaken the work of global multilateral institutions and hinder the implementation of their respective mandates.

The leaders also expressed their concern regarding ongoing conflicts in various parts of the world, as well as the current conditions of polarisation and fragmentation within the international order. They called for the peaceful resolution of international disputes through dialogue, consultation, and diplomacy.

In the context of international disputes, they emphasised the importance of preventive diplomacy and mediation, with the consent of the parties involved, as essential tools to avoid crises and prevent the escalation of crises, in accordance with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter.

Highlighting global challenges that are now interconnected and hindering economic growth while widening the persistent development gap between various countries and regions, the leaders reaffirmed the importance of sustainable development and inclusive growth within the UN agenda.

The declaration noted that the leaders recognise how artificial intelligence (AI) offers immense opportunities to drive economic growth and sustainable development for all.

While reaffirming the importance of people-to-people exchanges and BRICS initiatives in enhancing mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation, the leaders also called for increased efforts to respect cultural diversity, appreciate cultural heritage, innovation, and creativity, and collectively advance people-to-people exchanges and strong international cooperation.

The leaders also expressed their full support for China, which will hold the BRICS presidency in 2027 and host the 19th BRICS Summit.
