BRICS Industrial Innovation Competition Promotes Indonesia-China Technology Collaboration
The BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2026 was officially opened on Thursday, 7 May 2026, as a concrete step in implementing the BRICS Partnership for the New Industrial Revolution between Indonesia and China. According to Detik Finance on Saturday (9/5/2026), the event competes innovations in the sectors of artificial intelligence, green industry, low-altitude technology, and energy electronics.
A total of 52 selected elite teams from nearly 100 projects originating from Indonesia will participate in the direct presentation stage. The best projects from this competition will later receive tickets to compete in the global final round held in Xiamen, China.
The International Economic and Technological Cooperation Centre of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology acts as the main organiser with full support from ministries and research institutions in Indonesia. Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited, Jia Bingjun, emphasised Indonesia’s strategic position in his company’s development map.
“Indonesia is a key country for overseas development for China Datang Corporation,” said Jia Bingjun, Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited.
His side is committed to continuously expanding the scope of investments in the country to provide positive impacts on the local economy through job creation. Jia Bingjun also targets the development of new competent professionals in the future energy sector.
“In the future, we will continue to increase the scale of investments in Indonesia, create more jobs for the local community, and train more professionals in the energy field,” stated Jia Bingjun, Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited.
Through this initiative, China Datang seeks to bridge the innovation ecosystems of both countries so that local Indonesian projects gain access to capital and global markets. This effort is expected to accelerate the development of the industrial revolution partnership, which is the main vision of the BRICS bloc.
“Through this competition, China Datang hopes to use this platform as a bridge to connect the innovative resources of China and Indonesia, helping Indonesian innovation projects access capital, technology, and international markets, jointly promoting the development of industrial innovation in both countries, and supporting the construction of the BRICS Partnership for the New Industrial Revolution,” said Jia Bingjun, Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited.
Director of Regional Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Industrial Downstreaming (BKPM), Cahyo Purnomo, welcomed this collaboration given Indonesia’s aggressive push to accelerate industry. According to him, the adoption of advanced technology is very necessary to support national economic transformation.
“Indonesia is in a key stage to accelerate the new industrial revolution and greatly needs advanced technology and innovative concepts,” revealed Cahyo Purnomo, Director of Regional Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Industrial Downstreaming (BKPM).
Cahyo added that the four competition tracks align with the government’s current development priorities. The presence of investments and technology from China is seen as an important catalyst for enhancing the domestic industrial class.
“The four tracks of this competition are core fields that are Indonesia’s current development priorities. He hopes that through this competition, more outstanding local innovation projects can be unearthed, while attracting more technology and investment from China, jointly promoting the enhancement of Indonesia’s industry and supporting the realisation of the national vision ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’,” explained Cahyo Purnomo, Director of Regional Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Industrial Downstreaming (BKPM).
The evaluation of participants is conducted by 10 cross-country expert judges covering specialisations in investment, energy transition, to innovation incubation. Each competition field will send two best Indonesian representatives to the final stage in Xiamen.
