BRICS 2026 Industrial Innovation Contest Held in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The BRICS 2026 Industrial Innovation Contest Indonesian Qualification Round was successfully held in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5), marking new China-Indonesia cooperation in innovation within the framework of the BRICS new industrial partnership.
Under the theme “BRICS Innovation and Development: Accelerating the New Industrial Revolution”, the contest focused on four main areas of development in Indonesia, namely artificial intelligence (AI), green industries, low-altitude equipment, and energy electronics. The competition attracted nearly 100 projects from Indonesia.
After initial screening, 52 outstanding teams advanced to the live presentation stage. Winning projects will directly qualify for the global finals in Xiamen.
During the opening ceremony, high-ranking officials from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s International Economic Cooperation Centre and China’s energy giant Datang, the main organiser and executive organiser respectively, conveyed virtually their hopes that the competition would be held successfully and produce more impressive innovation outcomes, thereby providing a new impetus for China-Indonesia cooperation and the broader BRICS framework.
Jia Bingjun, Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited, stated that Indonesia is a focused country for the overseas development of China Datang Corporation.
In the future, his side will continue to increase the scale of investments in Indonesia, create more jobs for the local community, and train more professionals in the energy sector.
Jia also expressed his hope that the competition would provide opportunities for outstanding Indonesian innovations to gain capital investment, technological support, and market opportunities on international platforms.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, Director of International Research Cooperation Projects at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), stated that as Indonesia’s national research coordination agency, BRIN is always committed to promoting the transformation of local research outcomes and international cooperation.
According to her, the four competition tracks are highly aligned with BRIN’s current research priorities, and the contest is expected to foster Indonesia-China cooperation as well as innovation efforts in Indonesia.
Cahyo Purnomo, Director of Promotion for East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and Africa at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming (BKPM), and Adie Rochmanto Pandiangan, expert staff for Strengthening Domestic Industrial Capabilities at the Ministry of Industry, also emphasised the importance of innovation and new technological breakthroughs in Indonesia’s development transition and long-term national development vision.
In their speeches, they expressed strong support from Indonesian government institutions to encourage innovation and attract Chinese investments and technology to settle and develop in Indonesia.
The competition returned to Indonesia following its success in 2025. As the first Southeast Asian member of BRICS, Indonesia is widely regarded as an important participant in global industrial governance and a provider of solutions for economic transition.
