Boomi enables this Australia-based manufacturer to reduce integration complexity, accelerate project completion, and activate enterprise data through a reusable integration architecture.

Sydney—Boomi is a data activation company for AI. Today, Boomi announced that Brickworks has modernised its integration architecture using the Boint Enterprise Platform, unlocking previously inaccessible enterprise data, accelerating technology provisioning, and building a scalable foundation to support future growth.

Brickworks is one of Australia’s leading building products companies with a long history in manufacturing, distribution, and property. The company is known for its strong brand portfolio in Australia, New Zealand, and North America, with brands such as Austral Bricks, Austral Masonry, Bristile Roofing, and Glen Gery supplying various building products for the residential, commercial, and infrastructure markets. At its core, Brickworks combines reliable manufacturing capabilities, design-oriented products, and a strong brand presence through direct interaction with customers.

Brickworks employs approximately 1,800 people worldwide and operates an extensive network consisting of manufacturing plants, design centres, and retail outlets. Its customer base is diverse, including builders, architects, developers, contractors, retailers, and homeowners across the residential, commercial, and infrastructure markets. Rather than serving a small, specific group of customers, Brickworks supports a vast ecosystem throughout the building and construction industry.

Brickworks recognised the need to strengthen its core operational capabilities and modernise its technological foundation to keep pace with developments.

Brickworks’ integration landscape had previously been built on point-to-point connections created for single uses, limiting the company’s ability to access, share, and utilise its data. Valuable information remained trapped in disconnected documents and systems, making the construction of new integrations increasingly slow and expensive. To support future growth, Brickworks sought to build a scalable and reusable integration architecture capable of activating trusted enterprise data.

“Essentially, we wanted to move our data onto a highway while simultaneously creating the ability to reuse it and unlock access to data that was previously inaccessible,” said Keiren Lawrence, CIO of Bricksworks. “This step transforms integration from a supporting capability created for specific needs into a core strategic driver for our teams to truly deliver business impact through core technology.”

Brickworks partnered with Atturra, a long-time Boomi partner that previously implemented the Boomi Enterprise Platform across its own systems, to implement Boomi Companion alongside Atturra’s Integration Accelerator (AIA). This was done to connect Brickworks’ product information management systems with its content management systems.

“We have been working with Brickworks on business transformation and unlocking strategic business benefits by transforming and enhancing their application and integration architecture,” said Peter Savage, Field CTO for Data and Integration at Atturra.

Instead of implementing traditional integration, which can take more than 80 working days, the AI-based approach shortened the process to just 12 days, building 18 interfaces simultaneously while significantly reducing costs. The solution resulted in thorough and maintainable documentation, allowing end-stage changes to be handled through simple iterations without having to start from scratch. Atturra’s AIA and their related expertise further bolstered the Brickworks team’s confidence in the automation design decisions.

This project reflects a broader shift in Brickworks’ approach to integration, building platform-based architectural patterns that provide speed, reliability, and reusability for various future initiatives. In a recent complex marketing integration involving the migration of product data to a newly launched website, the team successfully completed the entire integration sequence without disruption, despite facing tight deadlines and a series of last-minute changes that typically cause delays of weeks or even months.

“In addition to benefiting from not having to move data manually, Brickworks also gains future capabilities that will help it achieve broader business goals,” said Savage. “When we implemented the Atturra Integration Accelerator with Boomi Companion, we essentially achieved every goal we had set, and this partnership has been very successful.”

As Brickworks modernises its platform, it is crucial to do so without adding complexity. According to Lawrence, “Boomi is a vital part of our strategy, providing us with a controlled and scalable way to connect our systems and activate our data.

“Since modernising our integration architecture with Boomi, our platform usage has increased by up to 700 per cent, allowing all teams to act faster and provide the right data whenever and wherever it is needed, while unlocking insights that were previously impossible to obtain,” said Lawrence.

This significant increase in usage required only a 50 per cent increase in cost. This means Brickworks has established an architectural pattern to cut integration costs and complexity while enhancing support and reliability for customers. One example comes from procurement, where Boomi…
