Briber of Inactive Ombudsman Chairman Hery Susanto Arrested, Turns Out to Be PT Toshida's President Director
Jakarta – The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has finally arrested Laode Sinarwan Oda (LS), the President Director of PT Toshida Indonesia, who is suspected of being the briber to inactive Ombudsman Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Hery Susanto in the alleged corruption case concerning nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi.
The arrest was carried out after Laode was known to have ignored three summonses for examination by investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).
Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that investigators were forced to conduct a forced pickup of Laode at one of his residences in the South Jakarta area on Monday, 11 May 2026.
“The investigation team carried out a forced summons, and the individual was secured at one of his houses in the South Jakarta area,” he said on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
After being secured, Laode was immediately taken to the Attorney General’s Office building to undergo intensive examination. From the results of that examination, investigators then designated him as a suspect because it was deemed that there was sufficient evidence.
“Immediately at that time, he was designated as a suspect, and this morning around 02:00, he was placed in Salemba Detention Centre,” he said.
Anang stated that Laode is suspected of deliberately avoiding examination, thus failing to comply with three summonses from investigators. However, during the arrest at his home in the Tebet area of South Jakarta, the individual reportedly did not resist.
“Clearly, at that time, they did not; due to surprise, he was immediately secured by the investigation team and taken directly to the Attorney General’s Office. Deliberately avoiding (reason for skipping),” he said.
Previously reported, the legal drama ensnaring Hery Susanto continues to unfold. After being arrested earlier, the AGO has officially designated Hery as a suspect in the alleged corruption case of nickel mining trade governance.
The designation was made after investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) obtained evidence deemed sufficient to implicate Hery. This was revealed by the Director of Investigation at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes of the AGO, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi.
“The Jampidsus investigation team has designated, namely Mr HS, designating suspect Mr HS in the case of alleged criminal corruption in nickel mining trade governance activities from 2013 to 2025,” he said on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
