BRI Volunteers Empower Sanur Kaja Village Through SOE Volunteer Programme 2026

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, is strengthening community empowerment in the BRILiaN village of Sanur Kaja, Denpasar, Bali, through the involvement of 10 BRI volunteers in the SOE Volunteer Programme (Relawan Bakti BUMN) Batch IX 2026. Held from 15 to 20 August 2026, the activities were directed at strengthening community capacity and optimising local potential through four main pillars: economy, education, environment, and health and food security.

The Relawan Bakti BUMN programme is an initiative of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises that involves SOE personnel in contributing directly to communities through social and empowerment activities. In its implementation in Bali, 10 BRI volunteers joined 10 other SOE volunteers to carry out a series of activities in the BRILiaN village of Sanur Kaja and several other locations.

BRI Corporate Secretary Dhanny said BRI’s involvement in Relawan Bakti BUMN is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence and contribution in the community through an empowerment approach that provides real and sustainable benefits.

“For BRI, community empowerment is not merely about providing assistance, but about how the potential already possessed by the community can be strengthened to become more productive, independent, and sustainable. Through Relawan Bakti BUMN, BRI personnel are present directly to share knowledge, assist the community, and build collaboration that can have a broader impact on the surrounding environment,” said Dhanny.

The selection of the BRILiaN village of Sanur Kaja as one of the activity locations is also in line with the village’s potential. Sanur Kaja has economic potential from the tourism sector, tourism-supporting trade, distinctive Balinese MSMEs, and fisheries. On the other hand, the village has a strong social structure with the preservation of customs and culture that are an integral part of community life.

Therefore, BRI’s approach focuses not only on providing facilities and infrastructure but also on strengthening community capacity. Through knowledge transfer, direct mentoring, the use of technology and digitalisation, and facility support, the programme is directed so that the community can optimise local potential while strengthening social and environmental aspects.

On the economic pillar, BRI volunteers provided MSME workshops and training with materials covering strengthening product identity, digital marketing strategies, and optimising promotion to expand market reach. The volunteers also carried out hands-on practice and assisted MSME actors in creating product promotional content.

A number of local MSMEs involved included businesses selling pudding and coconut water, fruit juice, rujak seasoning, mung beans, Griya Kristal, salted peanuts, chicken feet, herbal medicine, cangkruk coffee, florists, and MSMEs at the Natah Antakara MSME Centre. After the activities, photo, video, daily vlog, and promotional content materials were also prepared to support the strengthening of MSME branding and marketing on an ongoing basis.

BRI’s support was also realised through a number of supporting facilities for the BRILiaN village of Sanur Kaja. The assistance included 13 MSME table menu units, five segregated waste bin units, 13 MSME umbrellas, signage for MSME areas and kiosks, eight religious ceremony barrier boards, 13 sets of MSME tables and chairs, parking barrier boards, one three-wheeled motorcycle for waste transport, and information and tourism village signage.

On the education pillar, BRI volunteers were directly involved in activities at SDN 02 Sanur Kaja, which has 229 students. Activities included inspiration classes for students in grades 4-6, competitions for students in grades 1-3, and education on healthy and nutritious food. The inspiration classes were also directed at introducing various professions within SOEs while providing an interactive learning experience for the students.

To strengthen support for educational facilities, BRI also provided assistance in the form of four projector units and one package of paint and renovation of the sports field at SDN 02 Sanur Kaja.

“The approach we take is to ensure that every activity has benefits that can be continued. Therefore, in addition to activities with the community, we also provide support in the form of knowledge, mentoring, and facilities that can be used in the longer term. The hope is that the community can continue the good practices that have been built during the programme,” Dhanny added.

Meanwhile, on the environmental pillar, BRI encouraged community involvement through the ‘Jaga Sungai, Jaga Kehidupan’ (Protect Rivers, Protect Life) activity and waste management education. Volunteers and the community carried out river clean-up actions, sorted waste by type, and received education on the relationship between river, marine, and coastal ecosystems. The activity was also complemented by a campaign to reduce plastic use and build a shared commitment to maintaining environmental cleanliness.

As part of strengthening environmental management, BRI provided one three-wheeled motorcycle to the TPS3R of Sanur Kaja village along with a number of supporting equipment such as gloves, boots, rubbish bags, rubbish pickers, rubbish scales, segregated waste bins, and a ‘Clean River’ commitment board.

On the health and food security pillar, volunteers were involved in the BRI Bertani di Kota (BRI Farming in the City) programme with KWT Kota Pala. Activities included sowing and harvesting vegetables, developing derivative agricultural products, and free health checks for the community. This urban farming approach is directed at encouraging the productive use of limited land, improving food security, and opening economic opportunities based on household-scale agriculture.

The series of RBB Batch IX 2026 activities in Bali also became a momentum for collaboration between BRI, SOEs, local government, schools, MSME actors, communities, and the public. The programme series was closed through the inauguration of Relawan Bakti BUMN on 19 August 2026 at Matahari Terbit Beach, which was also filled with the handover of BRI assistance to the community and Sanur Kaja village as well as appreciation for the volunteers.

Through this programme, BRI continues to promote an empowerment approach that does not stop at the implementation of activities but is directed at leaving behind knowledge, capacity, facilities, and good practices that can be used by the community sustainably.
