PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, through its Taipei Branch Office, has partnered with the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) in Taipei by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) to synergise on financial education and banking services. The move is part of an effort to expand access to financial services for Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Taiwan. The signing took place in Taipei, with BRI Taipei Branch General Manager Andik Kurniawan and KDEI Taipei Head Arif Sulistiyo signing the document. It was witnessed by BRI Director of Treasury & International Banking Farida Thamrin and BRI Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) of Internal Audit Yulianto Setiawan.

BRI Director of Treasury & International Banking Farida Thamrin stated that this cooperation is part of BRI’s commitment to providing easily accessible financial services while expanding financial education for Indonesians abroad. “We hope that through this collaboration, more Indonesian citizens in Taiwan will understand the importance of sound financial management and utilise banking services according to their needs. This is also part of BRI’s commitment to delivering inclusive and easily accessible financial services for Indonesians overseas,” she said in an official statement on Saturday (18/7/2026).

The collaboration is also driven by the increasing number of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan, which by the end of 2025 was recorded at over 400,000 people, comprising Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), students, professionals, and the Indonesian diaspora. As this number grows, the need for safe, easy, and inclusive financial access, along with improved financial literacy, becomes increasingly important. Through this partnership, BRI Taipei Branch Office and KDEI Taipei will explore various forms of collaboration, including organising financial literacy socialisation, personal finance management education, utilisation of digital banking services, remittance services, and the introduction of various banking products and services that can support the financial needs of Indonesians in Taiwan.

Farida added that as a bank with an international network, BRI continues to strengthen its role in supporting the financial needs of the Indonesian diaspora in various countries. The BRI Taipei Branch Office is BRI’s sixth international network after the New York Agency, Cayman Islands Branch, Hong Kong Representative Office, Singapore Branch, and Timor-Leste Branch. Since commencing operations in 2021 as a Full Retail Foreign Bank Branch in Taiwan, the BRI Taipei Branch Office has offered various banking services, ranging from savings, loans, remittances, trade finance, and treasury to other banking services for individuals and businesses.

The BRI Taipei Branch Office also launched BRImo Taiwan in March 2026 as a digital banking solution designed to make it easier for Indonesian citizens in Taiwan to access various banking services in a practical, safe, and convenient manner. The presence of BRImo Taiwan embodies BRI’s commitment to providing increasingly inclusive financial services and supporting the financial transaction needs of Indonesians in Taiwan. “Going forward, the synergy between BRI Taipei Branch and KDEI Taipei is expected to expand access for Indonesian citizens in Taiwan to financial education and banking services tailored to their needs. This collaboration also strengthens BRI’s commitment to supporting financial inclusion for the Indonesian diaspora,” Farida asserted.

Meanwhile, KDEI Taipei Head Arif Sulistiyo noted that KDEI Taipei has established close cooperation with BRI Taipei Branch as the only member bank of the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) operating in Taiwan. “The presence of BRI as the sole Himbara bank in Taiwan holds a strategic position in supporting the needs of the Indonesian community, particularly in enhancing understanding of finance and banking services,” Arif said. He expressed hope that the presence of the BRI Taipei Branch would not only facilitate public access to banking service information but also further improve financial literacy and education for PMI and the Indonesian community in Taiwan more broadly.
