BRI Services in Kupang Temporarily Down, BRImo and ATMs Now Normal
Customers of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), complained about the paralysis of transaction services since the morning. Disruptions affected everything from the BRImo application to ATM machines and services at branch offices.
Monitoring by detikBali on Wednesday (1/4/2026) revealed that most of the public were complaining about the inaccessibility of BRI’s BRImo services and ATM machines.
Worse still, if customers attempted transactions three times at an ATM, the ATM card would be automatically blocked.
After the card was blocked, the ATM displayed information instructing customers to change their PIN for a fee of Rp 5,000, as indicated on the machine’s screen.
Not only that, cash withdrawals via BRILink were also reported to be disrupted when accessed.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from BRI Kupang regarding the cause of the disruption, leaving customers struggling to access banking services.
Yanto Nesi (35), one of the customers, expressed deep regret over the disruption that occurred just as he was about to make a transaction.
According to him, this situation directly impacts the urgent needs of customers who require quick access to their funds.
“It’s pitiful if people need money urgently but can’t get it. For example, I wanted to pay someone for the banners I printed, but I couldn’t because the BRI ATM was malfunctioning,” said Yanto at one of the BRI branches in Kupang.
He explained that the PIN he used could not access services at the ATM machine. However, if transactions were attempted three times, the PIN would then be declared blocked.
“How could that be? Transactions suddenly can’t go through, and then the PIN I’ve been using all this time is said to be blocked. We’re even told to change the PIN by paying Rp 5,000. Imagine if this disruption happened across Indonesia—BRI would make a fortune with each transaction deducting Rp 5,000,” he lamented.
One of the staff at the BRI office in Kupang revealed that the disruption is suspected to originate from the central system and has a national impact.
“It’s said that the entire network is disrupted from the central office. This affects all BRI banks in Indonesia, not just in Kupang,” the staff member stated.
Through its official account, BRI explained that the service disruption occurred due to system maintenance being carried out to improve service quality. Services have returned to normal as of 12:00 WIB. “We apologise for the inconvenience experienced,” BRI wrote.
