Customers of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), have complained about the paralysis of transaction services since morning. The disruptions affect everything from the BRImo app to ATM machines and services at branch offices.

Monitoring by detikBali on Wednesday (1/4/2026) revealed that a large portion of the public is complaining about the inability to access BRI’s BRImo service or ATM machines.

Worse still, if customers attempt a transaction three times at an ATM, the ATM card will be automatically blocked.

After the card is blocked, the ATM displays information instructing customers to change their PIN for a fee of Rp5,000, as shown on the machine’s screen.

Not only that, cash withdrawal services via BRILink have also been reported as disrupted when accessed.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from BRI Kupang regarding the cause of the disruption, leaving customers struggling to access banking services.

Yanto Nesi (35), one of the customers, expressed deep regret over the disruption as he attempted to make a transaction.

According to him, this situation directly impacts the urgent needs of customers who require quick access to their funds.

“It’s pitiful if people need money urgently but can’t get it. For example, I wanted to pay someone for the banner I printed, but I couldn’t because the BRI ATM is malfunctioning,” Yanto said at one of BRI’s branch offices in Kupang.

He explained that the PIN he used could not access services at the ATM machine. However, if the transaction is attempted three times, the PIN is declared blocked.

“How can that be? The transaction suddenly doesn’t work, and the PIN I’ve been using is said to be blocked. We’re even told to change the PIN by paying Rp5,000. Imagine if this disruption happens across Indonesia—BRI would make a lot of money, deducting Rp5,000 per transaction,” he lamented.

One of the BRI office staff in Kupang revealed that the disruption is suspected to originate from the central system and is affecting operations nationwide.

“It’s said that all the network is disrupted from the central office. This affects all BRI banks in Indonesia, not just in Kupang,” the staff member stated.
