BRI plans roadshow for bond, IPO
JAKARTA: Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) on Monday said it plans to hold a roadshow in several big cities next month to introduce its upcoming initial public offering and issue of a dollar- denominated subdebt.
"We are planning the roadshow for early August," BRI president Rudjito told reporters.
He said the roadshow will be held in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Rudjito didn't offer further details.
The government plans to sell up to a 30 percent stake in BRI through an initial public offering in November to raise between Rp 2 trillion and Rp 3 trillion.
The government said it will use proceeds from the IPO to narrow its budget deficit this year, which is running at 1.8 percent of gross domestic product.
Bank Rakyat is also expected to issue up to US$150 million in subdebt to increase its capital base. -- Dow Jones

Samsung restricts camera phones
SEOUL: Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory chip maker, said on Monday that it will restrict the use of camera phones at key factories and research centers to preclude industrial espionage.
The move comes amid concerns about the misuse of camera phones, which have become part of daily life in South Korea, one of the world's most advanced wireless markets.
People use the devices to e-mail photographs to friends but security experts have warned that camera phones could be used for industrial espionage. Fears about their use by pornographers have also been voiced.
"The use of camera lenses in mobile phones will be restricted at some semiconductor and telecoms factories as well as research and development centers," a Samsung Electronics official told AFP.
Samsung Electronics, the world's third largest handset maker, will allow visitors and factory workers to bring camera phones into factories only after their lenses were covered with a plastic sticker, he said.

Airbus announces strong sales
PARIS: The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus said on Monday it had delivered 149 aircraft and received 199 orders in first half of 2003, in line with targets announced during last month's Paris Air Show.
The news boosted shares in the European aeronautic and defense company EADS, which holds an 80-percent stake in Airbus. EADS shares had jumped 6.14 percent to 12.28 euros at mid-day in an overall French market that was up 2.52 percent.
"With the delivery of 149 aircraft in the first half, the company's objective of delivering 300 planes in 2003 seems more realistic," Deutsche Bank said in a note to clients.
CAI Cheuvreux said in a note that the deliveries surpassed its projections of 130 for the first six months, adding that the results boosted confidence in the manufacturer.
At last month's Paris Air Show Airbus said its full year targets were 300 deliveries and 250 new orders.
Airbus scored some prize orders at the show, putting it well on track to leave U.S. rival Boeing in the dust.
Boeing said it expected to deliver 280 new aircraft this year and between 275-300 in 2004. -- AFP
