BRI Optimistic That Its Fundamentals Will Support Long-term Growth
Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI (BBRI), believes its solid corporate fundamentals provide a strong foundation for the bank’s long-term growth prospects. This is also reflected in BRI’s consistent share buybacks as part of its strategy to create value for shareholders.
The consistency is evident in a series of buybacks carried out by BRI in recent periods. At the annual general meeting of shareholders on 24 March 2025, shareholders approved a share buyback worth up to Rp3 trillion. The shares may be repurchased on or off the stock exchange, either in stages or in a single transaction, in accordance with applicable regulations.
In 2026, BRI continued this approach with a buyback amid significant market fluctuations. According to a disclosure on 12 June 2026, BRI allocated up to Rp500 billion for the first phase of the buyback, to run from 12 June to 11 September 2026.
Then, in a disclosure on 22 October 2026, BRI announced plans for a second-phase buyback worth up to Rp1 trillion. The transaction is scheduled to take place from 22 October 2026 to 21 January 2027.
BRI Corporate Secretary Dhanny said the phased buybacks were part of the company’s strategy to optimise shareholder value, while taking account of its financial condition and applicable regulations.
“This share buyback reflects BRI’s confidence in its business fundamentals and long-term growth prospects. The company continues to prioritise adequate capital, prudential principles and good corporate governance in accordance with applicable regulations,” Dhanny said.
Dhanny added that the buyback decision also took into account global market dynamics, including economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, commodity price movements and capital flows affecting volatility in Indonesia’s financial markets.
In terms of financial performance, BRI recorded net profit of Rp31.2 trillion as of the end of the second quarter of 2026. Total assets grew 11.7 per cent year on year to Rp2,352 trillion, third-party funds rose 6.7 per cent to Rp1,581 trillion, while lending and financing increased 16.2 per cent to Rp1,646 trillion.
The performance was also supported by strong capital and liquidity positions. BRI’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) stood at 21.5 per cent, while its Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) was 90.8 per cent. These positions provide sufficient room for BRI to continue its intermediation role and maintain sound, sustainable business growth.
“Going forward, BRI will remain focused on strengthening business performance and driving healthy, sustainable growth. With strong fundamentals and capital, we are optimistic that BRI has room to continue growing and deliver optimal returns for shareholders over the long term,” Dhanny concluded.
