BRI, OJK, and Komdigi Unite to Support a Secure Digital Financial Ecosystem
The National Banking Association (PERBANAS), together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), are strengthening their synergy to eradicate scams, online gambling, and other digital financial crimes. This commitment was reinforced at the OJK Banking Forum 2026, themed ‘Strengthening Banking IT Governance and Enhancing Efforts to Eradicate Financial Crime and Online Gambling in the Digital Era’.
PERBANAS Chairman and BRI President Director Hery Gunardi stated that the banking industry fully supports the government and regulator’s measures to curb online gambling and financial crime. He noted that intensive coordination between regulators, the government, and the banking industry is crucial to narrowing the space for criminals. Beyond strengthening public education, banks are enhancing surveillance of suspicious transactions through improved Fraud Detection Systems (FDS).
Hery explained that the eradication of online gambling requires a collaborative effort and cannot be tackled by a single party alone. He stressed that such crimes not only cause financial losses but also impact mental health, family resilience, and public welfare.
OJK Chief Commissioner Friderica Widyasari Dewi highlighted that the challenge for the financial services sector is not only maintaining industry health but also ensuring consumer protection amid increasingly sophisticated digital crime. She called on the banking industry to treat the fight against online gambling as a shared commitment rather than a mere regulatory obligation.
OJK’s Chief Executive of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, noted the banking sector’s strategic role in safeguarding the integrity of the national financial system. He reported that as of May 2026, the industry had rejected 2.8 million business relationships with potential customers, terminated 51,200 relationships linked to online gambling, and blocked 32,454 accounts following Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD). Reports of suspicious financial transactions related to gambling also surged by 260.03% in 2025.
Komdigi Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized that eradication efforts must target the entire ecosystem, not just site blocking. She highlighted the need to cut off the accounts used as channels for gambling funds, reinforcing the importance of a comprehensive approach to protect the public in the digital age.
