BRI Marks 131st Anniversary with a Commitment to Sustainable Growth and National Progress
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Ahead of its 131st anniversary on 16 December 2026, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, officially launched its anniversary celebrations with a kick-off event at its head office in Jakarta on Tuesday (20 October). Attendees included BRI President Commissioner Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Group CEO Hery Gunardi, members of the company’s Board of Commissioners and Board of Directors, senior leaders, and representatives of BRILiaN employees from BRI work units across Indonesia, both in person and online.
The event provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds and unite the entire BRI family as the company enters a new phase of growth. For more than 13 decades, BRI has continued to expand its role in serving the public, from strengthening the people’s economy to offering a broader range of financial services to different customer segments. Its long history also provides a foundation for continued adaptation and sustainable business growth amid changes in the banking industry.
In line with this spirit, Group CEO Hery Gunardi said in his remarks that, through its BRIvolution Reignite transformation, BRI is strengthening its business foundations, accelerating digitalisation and providing financial services that are increasingly relevant to customers’ needs—from micro-business owners in remote villages to large corporations. Hery also thanked all BRILiaN employees for their dedication and contribution to the company’s transformation.
“At the start of these anniversary celebrations, I would like to thank all BRILiaN employees for their dedication and contribution to BRI’s transformation. This year, our theme is ‘Sustainable Growth, Advancing the Nation’. Four simple words, but they embody a long journey, a great responsibility and a promise to this nation. Times change, technology advances and the way we serve customers becomes more modern. But one thing must not change: BRI’s identity. Like the number 131, BRI must remain true to itself amid change: a bank born of the people, growing alongside the people and continuing to benefit Indonesian society,” Hery said.
The kick-off also underscored BRI’s commitment to empowering the people’s economy through the BRILiaN Klasterku Hidupku MSME Bazaar, featuring clusters of businesses supported by BRI. These included the Sumberejo Avocado Business Cluster, Bansari Melon Business Cluster, Kucurgan Matoa Fruit Business Cluster, Semboro Orange Business Cluster, Ngetos Mango Business Cluster and Pelanggan Citra Trani Strawberry Cluster. Each presented products associated with its region while showcasing local businesses being developed with BRI’s guidance and support.
Alongside its MSME initiatives, BRI introduced two BRI Peduli activities focused on environmental awareness. One, Sumber Mata Air Kehidupan (Source of Life), provides drinking-water refill facilities for visitors to encourage reuse and refilling, while reducing the use of single-use plastic bottles and cups. Through the initiative, BRI is encouraging its employees to adopt more environmentally friendly habits in their everyday activities.
The company’s environmental efforts also included Green Point, a waste-management activity combining education, interactive activities and prizes for participants. Designed to be engaging and enjoyable, it aims to raise employees’ awareness of waste reduction and management and encourage environmentally responsible behaviour over the long term.
The anniversary kick-off also featured BRILiaN Sportartcular, including the Sportartcular Parade, as part of BRI’s efforts to support employee wellbeing.
“At BRI, togetherness is more than an atmosphere. It is the strength behind our work. That is why we must continue to put our BRILiaN Way values—Integrity, Collaborative, Accountability, Growth Mindset and Customer Focus—into practice every day by trusting, supporting and strengthening one another. This is a good opportunity to deepen those relationships, so that the spirit we build together carries into the way we work and serve customers every day,” Hery said.
BRI’s 131st-anniversary programme will continue with activities intended to create added value and tangible benefits for the public. Through MSME empowerment, stronger support for the people’s economy and social initiatives, the anniversary also reflects BRI’s commitment to growing alongside the people, expanding economic opportunities, contributing to public welfare and helping build a more advanced Indonesian economy.
