BRI Mantri Brings Banking Services to the North Maluku Islands

In the North Maluku island chain, the sea serves as the main link between islands. However, when waves rise and winds blow strong, travel can be hampered. These conditions affect not only community activities but also access to banking services.

Such conditions are part of daily life for Wiranto Jumran, a BRI Mantri at the Bacan Unit, Ternate Branch. He oversees hundreds of borrowers spread across 34 villages on seven islands, the majority of whom work as fishermen, farmers, and small traders. In carrying out his duties, Wiranto also serves the community through Teras BRI Kapal Bahtera Seva II, BRI’s floating banking service that reaches small islands and coastal areas with limited access to formal financial services.

“I wanted to pursue a career at BRI because I want to keep learning and gaining experience in the business world. On the other hand, responsibility and family support also motivate me to continue carrying out my duties at BRI. The most memorable thing is seeing people on various islands welcome the arrival of the Teras BRI Kapal with enthusiasm. People feel happy because banking services are now closer, and I am proud to be part of that service,” said Wiranto, quoted on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Wiranto’s days are filled with visits to the villages under his supervision to serve savings and loan needs, while introducing various BRI products to the community. The majority of the people he serves use financing to develop their businesses as fishermen, farmers, and small traders. For him, seeing his customers’ businesses grow brings its own happiness in carrying out his duties.

Not every journey goes smoothly. When the Teras BRI Kapal Bahtera Seva II cannot dock due to high waves or strong winds, Wiranto and his team continue the journey using a rubber boat. After reaching land, the journey often must continue along steep and quite difficult paths to reach the destination village so that the community still receives banking services.

“For me, the duty as a BRI Mantri is a responsibility that must be carried out seriously. The experience of serving communities in island areas has taught me to always provide service wholeheartedly and give my best. I also realise that many people in villages and island areas still have to struggle just to get banking services. Therefore, I want to continue carrying out this duty as well as possible so that BRI’s presence truly benefits the community,” said Wiranto.

BRI Corporate Secretary Dhanny said that Wiranto’s experience reflects BRI’s commitment to continuing to provide banking services to communities in island areas with geographical challenges.

“Behind every journey taken by BRI workers, there is a spirit to ensure that people in various regions have equal opportunities to access financial services. For BRI, being present in the community is not merely about providing banking services, but also opening opportunities for people to grow and develop,” said Dhanny.
