BRI launches BRImo Taiwan to ease financial access for diaspora
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has launched BRImo Taiwan to ease and expand access to financial services for the Indonesian diaspora in Taiwan, particularly Indonesian migrant workers.
BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said that through BRImo Taiwan, BRI wants to make banking services easier, faster, safer and closer for Indonesians in Taiwan.
“BRI’s presence in Taiwan is not merely about opening an office or providing digital services. It is about being closer to Indonesians who work, create and build their future in Taiwan. We want BRI to be a bridge connecting financial needs in Taiwan with families and various needs in Indonesia,” Hery said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to the company, the presence of BRImo Taiwan is increasingly relevant given that Taiwan is one of the main destination countries for Indonesian migrant workers with significant economic and remittance activity.
Through increasingly accessible digital services, the company is encouraging migrant workers not only to use banking services for transactions and money transfers, but also to better understand the importance of safe, planned and sustainable financial management.
The significant role of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan in the national economy is reflected in the flow of remittances sent to Indonesia.
Based on Bank Indonesia data, remittances from Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan reached around USD 2.97 billion in 2025, equivalent to around Rp47-48 trillion when converted using an exchange rate of around Rp16,000 per US dollar.
This value has more than doubled from USD 1.37 billion in 2021.
The launch of BRImo Taiwan is a further step by the company in strengthening banking services for Indonesians in Taiwan.
Exactly one year since the company strengthened its presence through the BRI Taipei Branch located in Zhongsan District, BRI Taipei’s total assets have reached more than USD 408 million.
Meanwhile, Taiwan-Indonesia remittance transactions have reached around USD 490 million as of the end of July 2026, with more than 3,400 accounts served by BRI.
Through the BRI Taipei Branch, BRI is presenting BRImo Taiwan as a digital banking ecosystem that integrates various daily financial transaction services and can be accessed 24 hours a day.
Under the auspices of Danantara and directly supervised by the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan, the company stated that BRImo Taiwan is here to ease access to cross-border financial services that are safe, fast and transparent.
