BRI Helps Bandung's Sahate Healthy Snacks Surge into the Global Market
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, when awareness of healthier food was on the rise, Lince Sulastri spotted a simple opportunity. From her home kitchen in Bandung, she began experimenting with creating snacks that were not only delicious but also healthier, leading to the birth of Sahate in 2022. Using rice as a base ingredient, Lince developed crisps and various cookies that are gluten-free and low in sugar, yet remain savoury and crunchy. The initially small business slowly gained recognition, with customers returning and orders steadily increasing. As time went on, Lince realised that building a business was not just about maintaining taste. She began seeking ways to learn more, understand the market, and expand her network so her enterprise could grow further. ‘I started getting to know BRI’s LinkUMKM in 2024 to expand my marketing network while learning to develop the business,’ said Lince. For Lince, the presence of LinkUMKM became a space for learning, networking, and exchanging experiences with fellow entrepreneurs, as well as a place to spot opportunities she had not previously considered. LinkUMKM is an MSME empowerment platform from BRI that gradually helped her understand the market, broaden her network, and find ways for her business to advance. Through the training and mentoring she undertook, Lince began improving various aspects of the business, from product quality to marketing methods. On the operational side, she also experienced the benefits of easy digital transactions in her daily activities. ‘I use BRI’s QRIS to facilitate transactions because there is no need to bother looking for change. My hope is that this business can provide an economic impact for my family and the surrounding community and become more widely known by the public,’ Lince stated. The changes are now clearly visible. Sahate’s rice crisp products have become a mainstay and are increasingly sought after by customers. Its marketing has also expanded, not only through marketplaces and exhibitions but also through partnerships with various collaborators in several regions. Sahate’s progress continues to develop. Its products have passed curation for marketing opportunities to Denmark and Hong Kong. Currently, Lince is also preparing for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points certification as part of efforts to reach a broader market.
