BRI Group Manages 153 Tonnes of Gold through Ultra Micro Ecosystem
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has underscored the significant potential of Bank Emas Indonesia as a strategic instrument for optimising national wealth. He made the remarks in his State Address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council on Friday (14/8/2026).
Prabowo stressed that the existence of Bank Emas is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that Indonesia’s gold commodity is not only mined domestically but also stored, traded, and able to provide added value for the national economy. This is in line with the steps taken by Danantara through PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, together with the Ultra Micro Holding (UMi) in building an increasingly integrated financial ecosystem.
Through PT Pegadaian, which is part of the UMi Holding, BRI Group continues to strengthen the national gold ecosystem from upstream to downstream. To date, gold ecosystem assets under management within the Ultra Micro Holding have reached 153 tonnes, comprising gold deposits, gold pawnbroking, gold savings, gold instalment schemes, gold working capital loans, bullion trading, and corporate gold custody services.
This reflects the growing role of gold as an investment instrument, a store of value, and part of the community financing ecosystem. BRI Group CEO Hery Gunardi said that developing the gold ecosystem through Pegadaian is a concrete form of Ultra Micro Holding synergy in supporting the government’s agenda to optimise national wealth potential while expanding public access to financial services.
“The President’s directive confirms that gold has enormous strategic potential for the Indonesian economy. Through the Ultra Micro Holding, BRI together with Pegadaian continues to strengthen the gold ecosystem so that it becomes more integrated, inclusive, and provides greater added value for the public and the national economy. With gold ecosystem assets under management reaching 153 tonnes, we see that the room for growth remains very large going forward,” Hery said in a written statement on Friday (21/8/2026).
Strengthening the gold ecosystem is also part of the evolution of the Ultra Micro Holding after nearly five years of integrating the strengths of BRI, Pegadaian, and PNM in serving the micro and ultra-micro segments. While the initial phase of UMi Holding focused on expanding financing access and financial inclusion, ecosystem development is now being directed more broadly to help communities build assets and improve financial capacity sustainably.
“The Ultra Micro Holding has proven not only to expand financing access but also to help communities build assets. This is an important stage in the empowerment process, from obtaining access to financial services, developing businesses, increasing income, to ultimately being able to accumulate assets and improve welfare,” Hery said.
Going forward, BRI together with Pegadaian and PNM within the Ultra Micro Ecosystem will continue to strengthen ecosystem integration, expand service access, and develop innovations to make gold one of the instruments capable of driving inclusion as well as deepening the national financial sector.
“Indonesia has enormous gold potential. The challenge is how that potential can be managed within an integrated ecosystem so that it provides the greatest possible benefit to the public. BRI Group through the Ultra Micro Holding is ready to play a role in strengthening that ecosystem and ensuring that Indonesia’s wealth can become a source of strength for the national economy,” Hery concluded.
