BRI Regional Office Denpasar has disbursed the People’s Business Credit (KUR) amounting to Rp4.272 trillion up to April 2026. The loans were extended to 76,083 borrowers in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Anto Ariyanto, Head of Regional Micro Banking for BRI Denpasar, explained that KUR distribution was led by the wholesale and retail trade sector at 34.9%; agriculture, hunting and forestry at 24.7%; services at 14.9%; and manufacturing at 11.1%. The largest KUR disbursement was in Bali at Rp2.516 trillion (58.90%), NTB at Rp969.19 billion (22.69%), and NTT at Rp786.586 billion (18.41%).

According to Anto, entrepreneurs in Bali, NTB and NTT have greater opportunities to grow their businesses through KUR. ‘Besides, entrepreneurs can create jobs and strengthen the region’s economic competitiveness,’ he said in Denpasar on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

For context, BRI Denpasar posted KUR disbursements of Rp12.151 trillion in 2025. The loans were extended to 238,761 borrowers and were dominated by trade, services and agriculture, accounting for 76.97 percent.

KUR, Anto continued, is a commitment by BRI to support the government in strengthening the national economy structure through empowering SMEs, expanding employment opportunities and promoting development equality. ‘This is part of BRI’s role in strengthening an economy based on SMEs in the region,’ he explained.

BRI, Anto added, is pushing to raise SME capacity through various empowerment programmes. The aim is not only to provide capital but also to enable business owners to manage their operations more effectively and sustainably.

Anto added that the red-bank’s support extends beyond funding to include empowerment, business mentoring and financial education so that debtors can manage their businesses sustainably and responsibly. ‘We are committed to continuing to accompany and assist SMEs, not only with business capital but also through business training and other empowerment programmes,’ he said.

Geopolitical challenges and rupiah weakness

Anto noted that the United States–Israel–Iran conflict and the rupiah’s weakening against the US dollar also affect KUR. ‘There is an impact; we also assess the risk,’ he said.

BRI Denpasar, Anto said, places strong emphasis on the risk of KUR distribution amid geopolitical conditions and an unstable rupiah. Loans are disbursed only to customers who can truly repay. ‘We also look at the future prospects of the business,’ he added.

BRI, Anto noted, is committed to supporting KUR borrowers so that their businesses can be sustainable. For example, farmers in NTB are connected with off-takers who are also BRI customers. As a result, farmers are not confused about selling their harvests because off-takers can absorb them.

The BRI branch managers, Anto added, are also required to greet five of their customers. The aim is to understand borrowers’ financial conditions and prevent loan defaults. ‘So if they have problems, we can immediately find solutions,’ he said.
