Brentford vs Crystal Palace: Dango Ouattara's Brace Rescues The Bees
DANGO Ouattara emerged as the hero for Brentford after scoring two goals to force a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League match on Sunday (17/5/2026). This result keeps The Bees’ hopes alive for securing a ticket to European competition next season.
Playing in front of their home fans, Brentford were initially surprised by a quick goal from the visitors in the 6th minute. The referee pointed to the penalty spot after goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher fouled Ismaila Sarr in the penalty box, a decision confirmed by VAR. Sarr successfully converted the penalty to give Palace a 1-0 lead.
The home side finally equalized in the 40th minute. Starting from Jaydee Canvot’s less-than-perfect clearance of a cross into the penalty box, Dango Ouattara met the ball with an accurate header that shook the net of Dean Henderson.
Entering the second half, Oliver Glasner’s squad took the lead again in the 52nd minute. Adam Wharton put his name on the scoresheet after capitalizing on an assist from Daniel Munoz. Trailing 1-2, Brentford coach Keith Andrews made a tactical change by bringing on Sepp van den Berg to replace Kristoffer Ajer in the 82nd minute.
This decision proved effective. In the 88th minute, Van den Berg provided a perfect pass that was finished off perfectly by Ouattara to score his second goal and save a point for Brentford.
This additional point puts Brentford in 8th place in the standings with 52 points from 37 matches. This position is the last threshold for securing a ticket to European competition through the Premier League. This draw also serves as a positive response after they were previously thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City.
On the other hand, Crystal Palace remains in 15th place with 45 points. This result extends The Eagles’ negative trend of failing to win in their last six domestic league matches. However, Palace’s focus is divided as they have secured a spot in the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano on May 28.
