Brebes Police Name Nine Suspects in Illegal Attendance App Syndicate

Brebes Police have uncovered a syndicate responsible for creating and distributing an illegal online attendance application named ‘Person’. A joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit’s Tipidter and Tipidkor divisions has named nine individuals as suspects in the electronic data manipulation case. The illegal application was reportedly used by civil servants (ASN) within the Brebes Regency Government to falsify their location coordinates on the official government attendance app. Brebes Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Lilik Ardiansyah, stated that all nine suspects are now detained at the Brebes Class 2B Detention Centre. The suspects had different roles, ranging from the application’s creator to its distributors. The case came to light in late April 2026 at the Brebes Regency Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency (BKPSDMD) office, following suspicions triggered by an unusual spike in online attendance at specific times. ‘The suspects’ modus operandi was to falsify the system by creating an illegal app called Person. This application was specifically designed to breach the security of the official Brebes Regency Government attendance system,’ Lilik Ardiansyah explained during a press conference at Brebes Police Headquarters on Tuesday (1/7/2026). Once the system was breached, the application was widely sold to unscrupulous civil servants, including health and education workers, allowing them to clock in without being physically present at their designated workplaces. Police seized a number of crucial pieces of evidence during the arrests. For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 333 letter h in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP). They are accused of committing the criminal act of disseminating or utilising access codes to breach government electronic systems, and face the corresponding legal penalties.
