Breast Harassment Perpetrators Still At Large in Sewon, Bantul

Street sexual harassment continues to terrorise the Sewon area in Bantul. Within one week this August, two women have been recorded as victims of this form of street violence. Most recently, a woman was targeted while out for a run.

Instances of breast harassment have occurred twice within a week in August 2026 in the Sewon, Bantul region. Both victims were women out for morning jogs. To date, the perpetrators remain unidentified.

The latest incident involved a woman jogging in Sewon, Bantul, on Friday (28/8). The incident was shared on the Instagram account @merapi_uncover. The victim, who was jogging in front of the Sewon Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL), was subjected to harassment on Friday (28/8).

“The story is that every morning I go for a run with my husband on a route near our house; the route we take always changes but stays around the house area. This morning, as usual, we planned to run from our house towards Pendowo field, passing the Sewon wastewater treatment plant. The road is quite deserted, and I, who usually walk alongside my husband, began to run a bit faster, leaving my husband behind. While running alone, I became a victim of breast harassment,” wrote the @merapi_uncover Instagram account, as seen on detikJogja, Saturday (29/8/2026).

“My breasts were suddenly grabbed by an unknown person,” the account continued.

The Chief of Sewon Police, AKP Sutrisno, stated that Sewon Police officers have visited the scene of the incident.

“It is true (there is breast harassment in Sewon); officers have already been to the location,” he said when contacted by detikJogja, Saturday (29/8/2026).

Sutrisno added that the police have also taken statements from the victim, as she went directly to the Sewon Police Station following the incident.

Currently, the police are conducting an investigation to solve the case, which includes interviewing witnesses near the scene.

These incidents have recurred within a week of each other. A similar act was shared by the same account via CCTV footage, showing a woman being harassed while jogging in Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul, which went viral on social media. Police confirmed they have inspected the crime scene and advised the victim to report to the Sewon Police Station.

“Good morning admin, I want to inform you of a breast harassment incident experienced by a lady jogging around my house. The area is behind Clandys Niten (Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul). The incident occurred at 05:15. I am attaching video evidence in case she wishes to report to the nearest police station,” wrote the @merapi_uncover Instagram account, as seen on detikJogja, Thursday (20/8/2026).

The Head of Public Relations for Bantul Police, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, confirmed the incident. However, as of now, the victim has not filed an official report with either the Sewon or Bantul Police.

“It is true (there is breast harassment in Sewon), but the victim has not made a report so far,” said Rita.

Despite the lack of a formal report, Rita mentioned that the police have visited the location to verify the occurrence of the harassment.

“However, Sewon Police officers have visited the crime scene to conduct an inspection,” she said.

Regarding the ongoing terror of breast harassment, police have not yet been able to confirm whether the perpetrators are the same individual. As of today, the suspects have not been apprehended.

Sewon Police Chief, AKP Sutrisno, stated that the police are working to uncover the perpetrators behind the two incidents in Sewon.

“Investigators cannot yet confirm if there are similarities between the perpetrators,” he said when contacted by detikJogja, Monday (31/8/2026).

Police are continuing their investigation into both cases, including taking statements from victims and witnesses at the locations.
