Breakthrough After 20 Years: Honorary Teachers' Incentives Officially Increased
Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that the government under President Prabowo Subianto has officially increased incentives for honorary teachers. This policy marks a historic moment as it represents the first increase in two decades.
Teddy stated that since the incentive amount was established in 2005, it had remained stagnant without any adjustment until 2025. Under the current administration, the figure has now been raised to Rp400,000.
“The central government provides incentives. Incentives are not salaries, they are supplements. From 2005 to 2025 there was an incentive amount, and it has only increased under President Prabowo’s administration to Rp400,000,” said Teddy, as reported by Antara on Friday (27 February).
He clarified that the funds are classified as incentives or supplements outside the salary authority held by regional governments. This move represents a form of central government intervention through direct financial support to improve the welfare of honorary teachers.
Beyond the incentive increase, the government has also raised the allowance for non-ASN teachers from Rp1.5 million to Rp2 million. Beyond the monetary increase, the distribution mechanism has been completely overhauled for efficiency and certainty for teachers.
The most significant change teachers will benefit from is the distribution system. Previously, allowances were channelled through transfers to regional governments on a quarterly basis. Now, following direct instruction from President Prabowo, the funds are sent directly to individual teacher accounts each month.
Furthermore, Teddy affirmed that this series of policies proves that the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) does not disrupt or cut budgets in other sectors, particularly education.
“So no education programme has been reduced or halted. All continue, are sustained, and even expanded. And more specifically, the focus is on students, schools, and also teachers,” he concluded.
