Breaking: Trump Finally Speaks Out on Israel-Iran Attacks
US President Donald Trump has openly called for Israel and Iran to cease their mutual attacks. The plea was made by Trump via the social media platform Truth Social in the early hours of Monday (8/6/2026) local time, following a period of heightened security following a series of missile strikes and military retaliations between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
“Israel and Iran must stop ‘shooting’ immediately. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote. This statement emerged as the White House attempts to maintain diplomatic channels that have been pursued recently to prevent the conflict from escalating into a broader regional war.
A US official revealed that Trump has personally intervened to restrain further escalation. In a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, Trump requested that the Israeli leader postpone plans for a retaliatory strike against Iran.
Meanwhile, according to CNN International, an Israeli military official stated on Monday that the nation’s military is preparing for the possibility of battles lasting several days, even suggesting the possibility of a prolonged military campaign against Iran. In a statement to journalists, which marked his first public appearance since fighting resumed, the official accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement reached last April.
According to the official, the violation occurred when Iran began firing ballistic missiles into Israeli territory on Sunday night. The Israeli military reported that Iran has launched nearly 30 ballistic missiles since the initial attack was carried out. Additionally, the Tehran-backed Houthi group in Yemen is also reported to have fired two additional missiles towards Israel. Of these two missiles, one was intercepted by Israel’s air defence systems, while the other fell before reaching Israeli territory.
The series of attacks subsequently triggered a military response from Tel Aviv. An Israeli military official stated that the country launched two waves of attacks against Iran in retaliation. The first wave was aimed at hitting Iran’s strategic air defence systems. The second wave targeted a petrochemical facility which, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), plays a role in supporting the production of ballistic missiles and various other types of weaponry.
Israel maintains that all strike operations conducted against Iran so far have been carried out independently by the Israeli military. Nevertheless, the official acknowledged that the US provided assistance in air defence aspects by helping to intercept some of the missiles fired towards Israel. He noted that Washington’s support was limited to protecting Israeli territory from aerial threats and did not include direct involvement in offensive operations.
The official also revealed that coordination between the Israeli military and the US remains intensive amidst rising tensions. The Israel Defense Forces are reportedly continuing to coordinate with the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for US military operations in the Middle East. He stated that IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has held two talks with CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper within the last 24 hours.
