Breaking the Fast with Bubur Peca: A Century-Old Tradition in Samarinda
Mosque administrators at Shiratal Mustaqiem Mosque in Samarinda Seberang, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, served Bubur Peca for the breaking of the fast on Saturday (21/2/2026).
The mosque committee distributes at least 300 portions of Bubur Peca daily throughout the month of Ramadan to local residents as part of efforts to preserve the culinary tradition unique to Kampung Masjid Samarinda Seberang. The tradition has been designated as a national intangible cultural heritage and has been passed down through generations for approximately 100 years.
Muslims gathered at the mosque to enjoy Bubur Peca during iftar, continuing a practice that has become an integral part of the community’s Ramadan observance in the historic riverside neighbourhood of Samarinda Seberang.
