Breaking: Saudi Arabia Shoots Down Drone over Mecca
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Saudi-led military coalition intercepted a drone over the Mecca region on Friday (30 October 2026). The drone was reportedly launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who are often associated with Iran.
“A drone launched by the Houthi terrorist militia has been intercepted,” the coalition said on X, according to AFP. “It was destroyed in the Mecca region,” it added.
The announcement came after Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted two missiles fired towards Riyadh. The kingdom had earlier sent a warning to residents by mobile phone.
“An AFP correspondent heard at least eight explosions,” the French news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s civil defence agency issued a warning about “potential danger” in Riyadh, Al-Kharj and the southern city of Najran. Similar warnings have frequently appeared in recent weeks before attacks launched by the Houthi group.
