Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate is increasingly under pressure against the US dollar on the final trading day of the week, Thursday (30/4/2026).

According to Refinitiv data, at 09:20 WIB, the rupiah was observed weakening by 0.55% to the level of Rp17,370/US$.

The pressure on the rupiah is deeper compared to the opening position. Previously, the rupiah had opened weakening by 0.38% to the level of Rp17,340/US$.

With this weakening, the rupiah is further distancing itself from the previous trading close at the level of Rp17,275/US.TherupiahisalsoapproachingthepsychologicallevelofRp17, 400/US, indicating that pressure on the Garuda currency continues amid the strength of US dollar sentiment in the global market.

The rupiah’s weakening occurs in response to market reactions to the US central bank’s (The Federal Reserve/The Fed) decision to hold interest rates steady again. This decision has led market participants to increasingly assess that the room for US interest rate cuts this year is becoming more limited.

This situation keeps the US dollar attractive to global investors. When the US dollar strengthens or remains at high levels, the manoeuvring space for emerging market currencies, including the rupiah, becomes increasingly narrow.

In addition to the Fed factor, uncertainty over the Iran conflict is still a market concern. The surge in oil prices due to fears of supply disruptions from the Middle East has prompted investors to seek safe-haven assets again, including the US dollar.
