Breaking! Rupiah Weakens 0.79%, US Dollar Breaches Rp17,305

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The depreciation of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar deepened further during trading on Thursday (23/4/2026). According to Refinitiv data, at 09:32 WIB, the Garuda currency was recorded weakening by 0.79% to the level of Rp17,305/US.Thislevelalsomarkstherupiah′sweakestpositioneveronanintradaybasis.Moreover, thisdepreciationindicatesthattherupiahhasbreachedanewpsychologicallevelatRp17, 300/US. This movement shows that pressure on the rupiah continues since the start of trading. Previously, the rupiah had already opened weakening by 0.23% to the level of Rp17,210/US$. This means the Garuda currency’s weakening has deepened further just minutes after the market opened. At the same time, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the strength of the greenback against six major world currencies, was observed at the level of 98.627, strengthening slightly by 0.04%. Pressure on the rupiah is still coming from a combination of external and domestic sentiments. Externally, the US dollar is still being sought as a safe-haven asset amid uncertainties in the US-Israel war with Iran and the renewed escalation of tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
