Breaking! Rupiah Weakens 0.56%, US Dollar Hits Rp17,800

The depreciation of the Rupiah exchange rate against the US Dollar intensified during early trading this week, Monday (21/09/2026).

According to Refinitiv data, at 13:08 WIB, the Garuda currency was observed to have depreciated to the position of Rp17,830/US$, representing a weakness of 0.56%.

The Rupiah had actually been in the red since the market opened this morning. It opened 0.28% weaker at the level of Rp17,780/US$, and afternoon pressures caused the Rupiah to lose an additional 50 points from its opening position.

At the same time, the US Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened by 0.09% to a position of 100.334.

The Rupiah’s weakness at the start of this week is expected to continue being influenced by external dynamics, particularly developments in the Middle East conflict and the rise in global bond yields.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the Houthi group in Yemen stated they had attacked several sensitive locations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. Iran and the US have also exchanged threats once again.

While US crude oil prices closed down 1.58% last Friday, recent developments in the Middle East have the potential to cause energy price movements to become volatile again at the start of this week.
