Breaking! Rupiah Opens Stronger by 0.74%, US Dollar Falls to Rp16,850
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate opened stronger against the US dollar on the first trading session after the long Eid holiday, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
According to Refinitiv data, the rupiah started trading at Rp16,850/US, appreciatingbyupto0.74.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY) at 09:00 WIB was observed weakening by 0.28% to 99.158. Previously, in the last trading session, the DXY closed up 0.49% at 99.434.
The rupiah’s movement in today’s trading is still influenced by external sentiments, particularly the latest developments regarding the United States’ efforts to end the war with Iran.
US President Donald Trump stated there is progress in talks with Iran. However, that statement has not fully calmed the markets after Tehran denied any direct negotiations.
This situation has led investors to show signs of fatigue with the latest news surrounding the war and potential ceasefires. Nevertheless, uncertainty remains high, so the market has not fully exited its wait-and-see stance.
On the other hand, the weakening of the US dollar index this morning provides room for emerging market currencies, including the rupiah, to strengthen. The dollar’s decline occurs amid easing oil prices after the market sees the conflict is not worsening in the near term.
Nevertheless, the market continues to monitor the direction of US monetary policy. Federal Reserve officials have emphasised that interest rates may need to be maintained longer because inflation is not yet fully tamed, plus risks from the conflict in the Middle East. Therefore, the room for rupiah strengthening remains potentially limited.
