Breaking News: Trump Says War with Iran Will Soon End
US President Donald Trump has stated that he is confident the war with Iran is “very close to over”, meaning it is almost at an end. He made this remark in his latest interview with Fox Business, amid reports of new US-Iran negotiations this week and the failure of talks last week in Islamabad, Pakistan. “I think it’s almost over, yes,” he said on the programme aired on Wednesday (15/4/2026), as also reported by AFP. “I see it almost over.” He further explained how Iran has actually lost the war against the US. According to him, it would take Tehran another 20 years to rebuild its country. “If I leave this country (the US) now, they (Iran) would need 20 years to rebuild that country,” he said again. “And we’re not done yet. We’ll see what happens. I think they really want to reach a deal.” In fact, Trump has repeatedly declared a US victory in Iran since the start of the conflict. He told the New York Post that a second round of talks could occur “in the next two days” and that negotiations could resume in Islamabad, Pakistan. It should be noted that the short-term ceasefire between Iran and the US will end next week. The US and Iran have been in conflict since 28 February, when a joint US-Israel attack was carried out on several key locations across Iran, which was then retaliated by Tehran with attacks on locations throughout the Middle East and the closure of a vital oil trade route, the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, since Monday, the US military began blockading Iranian ports in an effort to stop Iran’s closure of the strait and to pressure the country into reaching an agreement. However, some allies have refused to support the blockade measure.
