A spokesperson for Belgian rail operator Infrabel stated the collision occurred at a level crossing in Flanders. He described the impact between the train and school vehicle as extremely severe. ‘The collision was devastating,’ said Infrabel spokesperson Frederic Sacre to AFP. He referred to the accident’s impact as ‘dramatic’. ‘It occurred at approximately 8:08 am when a minibus was struck by a train that was supposed to stop at the next station, about one kilometre away,’ he said.
